Arabian Literature: The Food of Paradise

 The Food of Paradise

According to Zyril Jane de  Asis's presentation, The Food Paradise was written by one of the most well known writer in Arabian Literature, Ibn Amjed. The story begins by introducing the main character, Mullah Ibrahim, a teacher who taught the religious teachings of Qur'an to his students. One day he realize that his work does not pay-off well, so he question his God, Allah, why he needs to suffer when he already did something good. One day, he decided to quit his work and journeyed to the city of Baghdad. In the city, he sat underneath a big tree that was near a river and took shed in it. He stayed there for so long, doing nothing but to wait for Allah's blessings. After a few day's he was already starving but luckily there was food floating in the river bank. He took and eats it, and this happens every day. One day, he was curious where his food comes from so he followed the stream and meet a hermit that told him about the story if the Silver castle and the Princess. When Ibrahim saw the Princess was the one who's throwing out the food in the river, he was thankful to her, and in exchange for the Princess kindness, Ibrahim together with Adhem saved the Princess from the tower that locked her up for so long. After everything, Ibrahim cried and realize that Allah always provides, but he was blinded of questioning Allah.

The themes of the story were faith, hope, and being thankful. The setting happens on the city if Baghdad, somewhere near the river. The main characters were Mullah Ibrahim, the hermit, the Princess, and Adhem. The conflict was man versus himself because Ibrahim was questioning his worth when he is praying to God, Allah.

I learned from the story that God is a silent provider. Based on what I have observed in reality, God may not usually give us the things that we wanted but He gives us the things more than what we hope for. I have learned that we shouldn't question God because He always has a purpose on everything that is happening in our lives, we may feel hopeless sometimes but our faith should remain because God will always give us what we deserve best.
