Hebrew Literature: The Parable of Talents

 The Parable of Talents

The Parable of Talents tells us the story of a master who was leaving his house to travel, but before he left, he assigned his property to his servants. Each of the servant will be given talents based on their talents, the first servant received five talents, the second servants received two talents, and the last servant received only one. Each of those talents worth a significant amount of money. When the master returned, he asks his servants to show the accounts on what they did with the talents that was given to them.  The first and second servant received an award because they invested their talents to work and have doubled the value of it. The third servant on the other hand, was punished because instead of using the talent vested in him, he just buried it to the ground and hidden the talent.

Sharing nd valuing ones talent are the themes of this story. The main characters are the master and the three servants: the servant who received five talents, the servant who received two talents and the servant who received one talent. The setting was in the house of the master. The conflict is man versus himself because the third servant choose to hide and bury the talent given to him.

In the story we learned that we should value the talent or talents given to us, may it be just one or more. Having one talent is not bad because if we get to master our talent, it will change us to become better and better.  Other than that we should not hide the talent we have within ourselves, we should come out from our shell and value that one talent we got because if we invest our talent to something we will be able to improve ourselves and become good at the talent we have.

In the story we also learned the value of sharing, sharing what you own to others without expecting something in return is a very good thing to do because we will be able to help them. Another lesson we can get from the story is that we should learn to value and appreciate what is given to us, by trying to invest it to something that will help double it, and be awarded for doing so.
