Lebanese Literature: Simon Who Was Called Peter

Simon Who Was Called Peter by Kahlil Gibran

The story begins with Simon and Andrew was fishing. Later on, God appeared in front of them, and told them that they shall follow him for he will make them fishers of man. Simon and Andrew followed Jesus. As they were walking, Andrew invited Jesus for a meal, to which Jesus agreed. In Andrew's home, his mother, wife, and daughter worshipped Jesus. As they were eating, Jesus told Simon and Andrew about the coming of the second man that will also open the gates of heaven. Then Jesus looked at Simon and Andrew and told them to take a rest. Both of them agreed and followed what Jesus said. Petronelah, Simon's daughter, sat on the feet of Jesus. Simon's wife and mother was very happy. Jesus looked at the moon and told them that the women should seek their beds, and he also said that he had caught two men on his net.

Trust and faith are the themes found in the of the story. The setting was at the lake of Galilee and at Andrew's home. The characters include Jesus, Simon, Andrew, Andrew's wife, mother, and daughter, and Simon's wife, mother, and daughter.

What I learned from the story was that we should learned to have trust and faith in Jesus or God. I also learned that sometimes God will call us or will be calling us in an unexpected events, that is why we should answer God's calling. Answering God's calling is done by letting ourselves accept God's words or opening our hearts to Him. We should learned to be faithful to God as well even though we do not see Him because God is always there for everyone.
