Arabian Literature: Arabian Nights (Aladdin and the Magic Lamp)

Aladdin and the Magic Lamp from Arabian Nights

According to Wikipedia, Aladdin and the Magic lamp was written in different versions yet it still have the same thought.

In the original story, it sets on one cities of China. Aladdin was recruited by a sorcerer who pretended that he is the brother of Aladdin's father. The sorcerer convinces Aladdin and his mother of a good life by setting Aladdin up with a wealthy merchant.  The real motive of the sorcerer was that he wants Aladdin to get the lamp inside the magic cave, before trapping him inside the cave; the sorcerer gave him a magic ring. When Aladdin was trapped in the cave, he was able to find the lamp, and when he rubs his hands together he also rubs the ring and a genie appeared who helped him get out of the cave. In Aladdin's home, her mother clean out the lamp for she plans to sell it, and she happens to rub the lamp, the genie appeared and because of this Aladdin becomes rich. The genie of the lamp created a kingdom for Aladdin and Aladdin was able to get married with the Sultan's daughter, Princess Badroulbadour. One day the sorcerer trick Princess Badroulbadour that he would be willing to replace the old lamp with a new one, to which she agrees. The sorcerer wishes to take the palace and sent it to his home. Aladdin with the help of the genie of the magic ring was able to get to Maghreb and was able to retrieve the magic lamp and killed the sorcerer. The sorcerer's brother heard about his brother's death, he decides to disguise himself as a healer but was still discovered by Aladdin and then he was slain. Aladdin was the one who succeeds his father-in-law's throne.

Wealth, strength, and love for oneself are the themes found in the story. The main characters are Aladdin, Princess Badroulbadour, Aladdin's mother, the sorcerer, the sultan, and the sorcerer’s brother, the genie of the ring and the genie of the lamp. The setting was introduced in the first part of the story, wherein it happens somewhere in China. The conflict was man versus man because it talks about man fighting for wealth.

I learned from the story that there is no such thing as magic that can make a man wealthy right away because people have to work just to become successful. I also learned that we should learn to value what we have because asking for too much might destroy us. I also learned that we do not need magic to be on top but rather we have to work hard to get there. I also learned that, good people are usually rewarded from the right actions and things they do.
